Between the two world wars, the master ironworker of Le Creusot, Eugène Schneider, undertook a valorization of the village. What was not in harmony with the site was razed, and in its place, entire groups of houses were rebuilt in the medieval Berry style. Holding the highly coveted label “Plus Beaux Villages de France,” this village of character in the heart of wild nature invites relaxation.
Nestled not far from the confluence of the Loire and the Allier, the charming medieval village of Apremont-sur-Allier was, in the Middle Ages, a village of quarrymen. Many cut stones were transported by boat, allowing in particular the construction of the Cathedral of Orléans.
A singing waterfall, a white garden, flower beds overflowing with brightly colored flowers, perfectly integrated small houses, rare trees, three exotic structures, and arches of fragrant wisteria give this park its magical character.
Created by Gilles de Brissac in 1977, the “Parc floral d’Apremont”, classified as a “Remarkable Garden,” offers a timeless stroll.
